Big box stores, supermarkets and other brick-and-mortar retailers recently launched EMV credit card readers for these so-called “chip & PIN” cards (the ones in which that little silver or gold colored chip is embedded) on or around October 1, 2015. That date is when, as mentioned in a previous OvationTix blog article a shift in fraud liability occurred for these in-person transactions in which the card was present.
The large majority of OvationTix transactions occur on the web, so it is likely that a relatively small percentage of payments (excluding your “walk-up” ticket sales, in-person donations, etc.) occur through a card reader.
